2024 World Motocross Championship China stands in Shanghai to "compete"

September 16, 2024

From September 14 to 15, the 2024 World Motocross Championship (hereinafter referred to as MXGP) China Station kicked off at the Shanghai International Off-Road Circuit. More than 70 domestic and foreign drivers from 33 teams from 22 countries took turns to compete on the only motorcycle cross-country track in China that meets the FIM standards. They competed in three categories: MXGP (450CC), MX2 (250CC), and Youth Group (85CC) to sprint for the annual world championship.

At the opening ceremony on the morning of the 15th, Shanghai Vice Mayor Jie Dong announced the start of the event. Yu Zaiqing, member of the International Olympic Committee and vice chairman of the Chinese Olympic Committee, attended the event, and George Viegas, president of the International Motorcycle Sports Federation, delivered a speech.

At noon on the 15th, the much-anticipated MXGP race officially kicked off. With an order, the MX2 (250CC) group final took the lead. The drivers were like arrows from a string, speeding on the muddy track, the roar of the engine, the cheers of the audience, one after another, resounding throughout the venue. Looking down from the sky, the track presents a pattern of the Chinese character "贤", winding on the vast land. On the 2,000-meter-long track, 16 ramps are cleverly laid out, with the highest point reaching 4.5 meters and the widest span reaching 60 meters, which puts extremely high demands on the drivers' skills and courage. With superb control skills and extraordinary courage, they drive their motorcycles into the air on the muddy track, draw beautiful arcs, and after landing steadily, they quickly accelerate and continue to sprint forward, showing amazing driving skills. The enthusiasm of the audience was instantly ignited, and the fans waved flags and shouted loudly to cheer for the drivers they supported. After a day of fierce competition, the 18-year-old Lucas Cohen won the MX2 China Station championship with the first point, and the "post-00" Spanish teenager Jorge Prado, who won the world championship three times, won the MXGP China Station championship.

In the end, the 18-year-old Lucas Cohen won the MX2 China Championship with the first point, and Jorge Prado, the 2023 champion, also won the MXGP China Championship. This is also the first time that the event has landed in Shanghai after a four-year absence.

MX2 Champion: Lucas Cohen

MXGP Champion: Jorge Prad
